The One Sturdee Building was specifically designed to house Sasol. Although a lot has been done to soften the old monolythic nature of the building, tenants put constant effort into redefining their office spaces. The Arrowhead Balcony had been a point of discussion for many years post the new office fitout and finally a decision was made to activate the space by means of a new multipurpose outbuilding.
To create a lightweight, low cost, low maintenance multipurpose outbuilding. The design needed to speak to the industrial style of the office as well as become a focal point for the balcony.
The design was transformed by construction group LSF and comprises of lightweight steel trusses. Clad in an IBR sheeting, with subtle design elements such as the exposed aggregate external bar counter, and stucco entrance façade, the outbuilding adds a subtle geometry to the once sparse balcony.
